61 Percent of APM Deployments Fail to Prevent Performance Issues, Survey Says

ExtraHop Networks announced a new report from TRAC Research detailing the performance management challenges organizations face in today's increasingly dynamic and complex IT environments.

TRAC’s report, Improving the Usability of APM Data: Essential Capabilities and Benefits, found that 61 percent of organizations using traditional APM tools are unsuccessful the majority of the time in preventing performance issues from impacting their end users. As a result, these companies spend an average of 46.2 hours each month trying to figure out how to remediate application outages and performance degradations.

Respondents cited numerous shortcomings of traditional APM solutions, including the following:

* Time-consuming correlation of performance data across multiple APM platforms (63%)

* Too much irrelevant data (61%)

* False positives (42%) and false alarms (32%)

According to TRAC Research, respondents’ inability to meet these challenges negatively affects the credibility of the IT organization, the company’s brand and reputation, and customer satisfaction.

TRAC’s research also found that 55 percent of organizations identified the inability to customize performance-data views for different stakeholders as the biggest challenge in making APM data useful.
