After some unexpected delays, Gartner has released the 2013 Application Performance Monitoring (APM) Magic Quadrant.
Produced by Research VPs Jonah Kowall and Will Cappelli, the report covers the market for technologies and services that deliver Gartner's five dimensions of functionality:
- End-user experience monitoring
- Application topology discovery and visualization
- User-defined transaction profiling
- Application component deep dive
- IT operations analytics
Three of the four "Leaders" in the report - AppDynamics, Compuware and New Relic - are Gold sponsors of APMdigest. The fourth Leader, Riverbed Technology, joined APMdigest as a Silver Sponsor on January 1, 2014.
Two of the three "Niche Players" - Dell and ManageEngine - are also Gold sponsors of APMdigest.
According to Kowall, "Due to the delays this research is not as fresh as our prior APM Magic Quadrants so Will and I are writing a market update note which will be out next month and bring things a bit more current."
By year-end 2013, Gartner estimates that the global spend for APM software licenses and first-year service contracts will grow to approximately $2.12 billion, which represents a 5.4% growth over the $2.01 billion spent in 2012. This 5.4% growth rate represents a deceleration from the 5.8% growth rate experienced between 2011 and 2012.
