Loggly announced a new integration for HipChat, Atlassian’s real-time team communication app, which automatically sends alerts about log events to HipChat rooms so teams can engage the right people in operational troubleshooting and accelerate problem resolution. The new integration leverages HipChat’s v2 API, which makes it easy for customers to set up the integration with just a few simple steps.
“Atlassian’s HipChat is a popular real-time communication platform among developers and DevOps teams because it brings transparency to problem solving,” says Manoj Chaudhary, CTO and VP of Engineering at Loggly. “This integration with HipChat is yet another example of how Loggly makes it easier than ever to bring the context and insights from your log data into the DevOps conversations that are already happening.”
The new HipChat integration is based on Loggly’s flexible alert endpoint framework, which allows nearly any third-party system with support for webhooks to be notified of any specific events or trends in log data. For example, users can set up alerts to be notified about such things as:
- Specific errors that have occurred
- Spikes in the frequency of a particular type of event such as 400 or 500 status codes
- Average or maximum numeric values such as response times exceeding set thresholds
In addition to posting an alert, the Loggly integration also forwards key context, including samples of actual log events and a direct link to all the events within the Loggly console.
“Alerting on key changes is a really effective way to stay ahead of operational problems, but they only make a difference if developers and DevOps teams are actually reading them,” says Steve Goldsmith, Head of HipChat Engineering at Atlassian. “We’re excited about the Loggly-HipChat integration because it brings time-sensitive information into our users’ existing collaboration processes.”
The new HipChat integration is available today to all customers and trial users at no additional cost.
