Zenoss announced that Zenoss Service Dynamics now supports Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).

As the IPv4 era draws to a close, some analysts are predicting rapid adoption of IPv6 in the coming months as the remaining IPv4 addresses may be used up by mid-2012.

As enterprises and service providers roll out IPv6 networks alongside existing IPv4 infrastructures, both IPv6 and IPv4 servers and network devices in the hybrid environment will need to be monitored in parallel for some time. Zenoss Service Dynamics can automatically discover, model and monitor IPv6 devices, all with one product that supports IPv4 devices as well.

“The Cloud is simply not possible without IPv6,” says Bill Karpovich, CEO of Zenoss. “Zenoss once again is helping customers address the evolution in their dynamic datacenter with a unified service assurance solution that supports their entire hybrid IT infrastructure, whether IPv6 based or otherwise.”

A critical part of transitioning to IPv6 technology is ensuring the right service assurance solution is in place to assure the performance of complex networks, data centers and cloud infrastructures. While IPv6 offers many benefits, such as reliability and security, organizations will be transitioning their existing technology over a period of time in order to mitigate the risk to their environment during the migration.

During this transition, having a single solution that can analyze the performance and availability of the new IPv6 network and the legacy IPv4 will be essential for maintaining operational support and proactively addressing any negative impacts during the technology transition.
