Here’s a great quote from cartoonist/satirist Scott Adams: “Informed decision-making comes from a long tradition of guessing and then blaming others for inadequate results.” Adams’ satire hits home in regards to the common state of ECM application management.

Too often we hear that ECM administrators and stake holders are first alerted to ECM application problems by users. But that’s already too late. What starts as trouble shooting can become an epidemic that affects many users – and stalls productivity. We constantly hear stories of repository and capture applications being “stuck” and the visibility coming from vocal end users and stake holders.

Why is this still happening in today’s modern, data-driven era?

With ECM applications becoming more critical and complex – especially with new mobile demands, compliance requirements, and ever more end users – real-time visibility into the application is no longer a “nice to have.” Without it, ECM teams are stuck in a costly cycle of manual processes, searching out problems starting with “well-educated” guesses. This leads to a lot of finger pointing between the apps group, the infrastructure group, the network group and the database group. And, what about those escalations? Uh boy, late for soccer practice again!
The “What’s Your ECM Action Plan?” infographic shows the how modern, ECM-aware application management solutions (with pre-configured ECM tests, notifications, dashboards and reports) can provide a measurable and positive production impact for a business, its IT team and its end-users.
