Kentik announced Jonah Kowall — former AppDynamics and Gartner VP, and frequent contributor to APMdigest — as the company's new Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
Kowall brings nearly two decades of network and business management experience to Kentik. He adds to the deep bench of industry practitioners joining Kentik to develop modern analytics for all networks ㄧ old and new, traditional, hybrid, and increasingly cloud-native.
“I’m excited personally, and for our entire team, to partner with Jonah as we plan and execute our continued growth,” said Avi Freedman, co-founder and CEO of Kentik. “With his background in both systems and networking, as well as his experience running SaaS-based businesses across operations, performance, and security areas, Jonah will add a breadth of experience to Kentik as we expand into new markets globally.”
Prior to Kentik, Kowall served as the VP of market developments and insights at AppDynamics, where he worked on strategy, partnerships, and product management. Kowall also served as a VP of research at analyst firm Gartner, where he focused on availability and performance monitoring and IT Operations Management (ITOM). He developed Gartner’s Network Performance Monitoring and Diagnostics (NPMD) Magic Quadrant, and led coverage of Application Performance Monitoring along with that Magic Quadrant, and also covered other monitoring and analytics technologies.
“The new normal is cloud-native, yet visibility is challenged on the network side. Kentik is leading the innovation with a scalable and flexible platform,” said Kowall. “I’m excited to join such a smart, passionate team dedicated to solving for today’s biggest networking challenges. Today’s transitions to cloud-native and increasingly diversified architectures are adding complexity, and the market is ripe for Kentik’s modern network analytics platform, which provides fast, actionable technical and business insights.”
