Accedian Networks introduced the SkyLIGHT VCX, a performance assurance controller employing Network Function Virtualization (NFV) to bring advanced monitoring capabilities network-wide, without the need for expensive, high-end test equipment.

By eliminating key cost, scalability, and coverage barriers to network performance visibility, service providers can now more cost-effectively ensure a better quality of experience (QoE) for users.

"The VCX is a radically more efficient approach to network performance monitoring, combining all the benefits of virtualization without compromising test speed or precision," said Patrick Ostiguy, President & CEO of Accedian.

The VCX Controller works together with Accedian's Nano smart SFP (optical transponder) and compact gigabit Ethernet modules to deliver multi-flow traffic generation and ability to monitor the performance of thousands of flows. The modules are easy to install and cost up to 90% less than existing solutions, enabling service providers to realize the significant capital and operational efficiencies promised by an NFV architecture, while their customers benefit from a fully assured network.

The VCX Controller combines centralized control with distributed test traffic generation to offer full mesh and segmented testing that would be otherwise impossible due to cost, deployment effort, and feature shortcomings. The VCX Controller solves the challenges inherent with legacy solutions, which act only as simple test reflectors and lack the ability to initiate and generate test sessions.

"NFV and D-NFV are redefining service assurance requirements. In response, vendors such as Accedian are bringing to market virtualized solutions that leverage the resiliency and cost advantage of software based solutions to best address service provider monitoring and testing demands," said Heavy Reading Senior Analyst Jim Hodges.

Mobile operators integrating the VCX Controller into their infrastructure can continuously optimize their networks, and deliver the best possible user experience to every customer. With fewer dropped calls, faster data download speeds and increased customer loyalty, the VCX allows operators to differentiate on performance instead of price. VCX offers operators an industry-first ability to test the service path, separately measure upload and download directions, and offer the precision required to accurately assess delay-sensitive impairments impacting hand-off and VoLTE call quality.

Service providers offering hybrid-cloud and enterprise-to-data center connectivity can employ the VCX Controller in virtualized customer premises (vCPE) applications. The Accedian Modules' precision and simplicity allows providers to offer customers self-installed services backed by premium Service Level Agreements (SLAs). With real-time reporting, customers can see connection performance as it happens, enabling new revenue-driving services like assured bandwidth-on-demand.

The VCX Controller was designed to fit seamlessly into a service provider's existing infrastructure, operational practices and procedures. It uses the same interfaces as Accedian standalone solutions to interoperate openly with standards-based network elements, management platforms, analytics platforms, and more.

The VCX Controller and Accedian Modules are available now.
